OH YEAH!

It was brought to my attention
that I did not mention the lovely Natalie Portman in my Oscars post...
something that is totally not ok.
SOOOOO

First of all, a story:
I was at St. Vincent Depaul the other day looking through the old magazines,
and I found a 1995 Seventeen magazine with Natalie on the cover.
She was fourteen at the time and the interview started out
"have you heard of her? probably not..."
and went on to say "she just might be the next winona"
which, if you have seen black swan, DE JA WHAAAAAT??!!

Anywhooo fast forward to now,
where she showed up to the Oscars looking like a sweet little grape.
I totally love pregnancy and her gigantic belly and delightful basoomas
complemented her beautiful mommy-to-be smile,

and all of this was accessorized by a lovely plum Rodarte dress.

Everything about her is awesome.

AWARDS SHOW MANIA: SCREEN ACTORS GUILD

ALOOOOOHA
The SAG Awards happened,
which means THE OSCARS ARE GETTING CLOSER!!
And geez hooliah, most everyone looked incredible!
Way better than the Critics Choice!
Here are my thoughts:
The Good:
Amber Riley in Ann Barge
SO PERFECT
diva-esque, and body conscious!
Julia Stiles in Monique Lhuiller
LOVE!
January Jones in Carolina Herrera
Different, but it totally works
Natalie Portman in Azzaro
BABY BELLY!
fertility goddess!
Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen
BAAAAAAAH
<3>
like she popped on a beautiful white dress,
went all Lady McBeth on someone,
and instead of being like "out out damn spot!!"
she just ROCKED IT and was like,
BLACK SWAN BITCHES.
So long that 70s show!

The Bad:
Amy Adams in Herve Ledger
TOTALLY washes her out
Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci
something about this look just creeps me out.
she looks like an orphaned teenager from a tim burton movie
who gains strength from burning dolls and eats spiderwebs
or something.

The Beauty:
Natalie Portman
Makeup by Eileen Kastner-Delago
Hair by Orlando Pita
her signature shimmery smokey eye, this makeup is stunning,
(but the hair is strange, aging, and flat)

Lea Michele

Makeup by Melanie Inglessis

Hair by Mark Townsend for Dove

beyond simple, minimal but so lovely.

check those lashes!

Tina Fey
Makeup by Gita Bass
Hair by Richard Marin
Classy, Classy, Classy.

and my favorite of the night:
Helena Bonham Carter, looking adorable!
still her kookywooky self, but tucked in and toned down.
her shoes match, the dress is fun, and her hair
-still big and random-
has been brushed and styled.

thoughts?

AWARDS SHOW MANIA: Critics Choice

YES! It is here again: Awards season!
this means the stars haul out the big guns and go for broke in the fashion department...
I'm a bit behind, so I'll try and make this quick:

GINGERS!
(backwards?) (also backwards?) (blehhhhh)

NOT A GINGER (lame. boring.)
(before) (after)

I LOVE AZZARO!!!!
(at the critics choice) (at the premiere of blue valentine)

ZOMG RUN ITS BELLATRIX
(and she wants a kiss... DEMENTORS???!!!)

WHERE ARE YOUR UNDIES?!
(and what is that monstrosity on your shoulder?)

THIS ISN'T 1954 AND YOU AREN'T GETTING MARRIED
(even if it was, I still wouldn't recommend wearing this dress)

PRETTY!
(finally)

Black Swan

From Oscar buzz to a pregnant Natalie Portman to that lesbian scene...
everyone is talking about Black Swan
and EVERYONE is trying out their version of the now infamous makeup
Well, it would be just lame if I didn't contribute,
it's such a beautiful look, and I love a challenge!
Here is my take
(please forgive the photography, I am no Berit)
it just so happens that i had the perfect costume
(from a recital about 6 years ago LOL)
Want to recreate this look on your own?
Both KlairedelysArt and MichelePhan have great video tutorials that I referenced

Basically:
Eyes

-block out the shape of the eye in white or neutral pencil
-fill in the shape with white shimmer cream eye shadow
-trace the outline of the shape in black liner
-use the liner to create feathered pattern, and fade it into the hair line
-correct any mistakes with white eyeliner
-apply lots of black mascara
-to mimic the red eye of the movie, use red lip liner on the water line
Face
-heavily apply the lightest foundation possible, and finish with white powder
-using a neutral ash colored eye shadow hollow out the cheeks
Lips
(all the pictures of my lips looked awkward. sorry!)
-use black eyeliner to line the lips and fill in the corners with color
-apply red lipstick in the middle of the lips
-use a brush to blend the colors together

HAVE FUN!
STAY FABULOUS!

Further Elaboration on the People's Choice Awards

1) I WANT leighton meester's dress!!!
but her blush is frighteningly garish
2) PIRATE EXCELLENCE
John Christopher Depp III
I wish i could be his best friend...
we could sail the open seas,
run around on his private island,
drink fine wine,
talk about cryptozoology,
pay for everything in solid gold,
watch for the green flash on the horizon (it's a real thing!)
and just engage in general pirate-y pleasures

i know i don't know how to edit a photo
squint a little
Mikaeyla Michalka
(from Phil of the Future!!!)
doing her best to look like a piratey wench

4) DISCONCERTINGLY TAN DISNEY STARS
come ON sharpay. you can do better.\
is it just me or does he look oddly Latino?
She IS latina, so maybe this is a real color?
(if you are confused, yes she did wear two dresses. and yes, this one sucked)

5) THATS SO RAVEN
Honey, just because its your namesake,
doesn't mean you have to dress like a (skanky) bird.
otherwise Moses and Apple Martin are in big trouble.

6) INSANELY HIGH HEELS
the boys escorted Miss Stewart
-who looked very much the vampire (glittertits!) in that very tiny dress-
and her 5 1/2 inch Jimmy Choos
up to accept their award for Favorite Movie.
Also, her normally unkept hair looked DEEEEVINE!
So many people dislike her,
but I have this crazy infatuation with Kristen Stewart.
Be ready for a post on her soon.

Katy Perry's dress was, as Berit said, pure confection,
but those shoes?
6 inches of pure pink toe destruction!

7) PWN
That J.Mendel dress that Miss
I'm-so-very-innocent-but-I-still-manage-to-date-30-year-olds-and-John-Mayer
bored the death out of?
Well, Natalie Portman wore it on the cover of Vogue this month.
And, I must say, she went total black swan
and danced (pregnant!) circles around that little perma-smirker

mmm it took me 6 hours to create this post...
only for you my lovelies!

People's Choice Awards' Fabs and FAILS

Due to my lack of younger siblings Selena Gomez will never have any real relevance to my life or fashion opinions, but this dress is really cute and youthful on her without aging her.

Even though I hadn't the faintest idea of who Ashley Benson was before I looked her up on Wikipedia, this dress is really fascinating to look at and fits her really well. I'm also happy that she didn't do something foolish like over-accessorize and ruin the effect of the dress. She pulls of the dying fad of one-sleeved dresses nicely.

Katy Perry's face says it all, which is, "LOL THANKS BETSEY JOHNSON FOR MAKING ME A FAIRY PRINCESS!!!!!!1!!" All she needs is a wand that blows bubbles and the look is complete. I LOVE IT (And hey, at least she's not wearing fruit!).

Although Lyndsy Fonesca's look would probably have been better as a whole if it had been styled to look more formal and red carpet-y, this dress is suuuuper classy- and how cool are the feather details?

How does one keep one's cooter concealed when wearing a dress this short? Kristen Stewart could have left an inch or two on the hem and it still would have looked edgy and fitting for her style.

Taylor Swift decided to WOW us with a shocking new foray into fashion... oh wait. Never mind. She's wearing a flow-y, flesh-y toned dress, AGAIN. As if having only one facial expression wasn't boring enough.

Kate Walsh has been receiving a lot of praise for this look on the interwebs (notice the shoes, plz, pointy-toed heels are making a comeback), but her dress has kind of a Forever21-y vibe, don't you think? I'm not a huge fan of dresses with lots of tucking and draping like that.

Natalie Portman is looking SO cute in this baby bump-concealing dress, and at the risk of sounding as if I know her, this is totally something she would wear. And the shoes add a nice little pop as well!

It's funny how some celebrities choose to conceal their prego bellies and others... well...

Tee Hee!

Hmm did I miss any gems?
